Design is how
I see the world
I studied visual communication at Stellenbosch University — four years immersed in every form of art and design. It shaped the way I see everything.
By day I am co-founder and creative head of EXPAND, a Cape Town marketing agency. I have spent over a decade building brands and solving creative problems for other people.
The evenings belong to me. That is when I make things. Ink drawings, knitting, crochet — whatever my hands feel like and my mind needs to explore. I cannot sit still without creating. What I have discovered is that making with your hands is where the best thinking happens. It is cheaper than therapy and considerably more beautiful.
lara.h grew from both worlds. The entrepreneur and the maker. The strategic mind and the restless hands. The cushion covers are original ink artworks on cotton canvas — first shown at Design Indaba in 2014, now at home on your couch.
The Sparkle by Lara neck pieces are handmade, one of a kind, worn by women who refuse to be invisible.
